About the Artwork

Renaissance Reverie

In this painting, I wanted to bring together my fascination with the aesthetics of the Italian Renaissance and my own contemporary approach to color and the human figure.

I was particularly inspired by the idealized beauty of Renaissance portraits and their atmospheric, almost imaginary landscapes. I wanted to create a similar sense of timelessness, but through a much more expressive and vibrant visual language. The landscape here doesn’t belong to any particular place. It’s a world of shifting colors and fantastical forms, somewhere between reality and imagination.

The young man’s distant, contemplative gaze was an important part of the idea. Although his physical presence is strong and immediate, he seems mentally elsewhere, absorbed in thoughts or dreams that remain unknown to us. I like this contrast between the tangible beauty of the body and the mystery of someone’s inner world.

For me, Renaissance Reverie is also about the freedom to reinterpret classical beauty without being bound by its traditional forms. I wanted the figure and the landscape to feel connected, almost as if the surrounding world were shaped by his own imagination.
